In the beginning…
The North Bucks Regional Academy concept was formed and incorporated within the infrastructure of the NPBC Academy when formed in 2018. To address the issue of the many regional Junior players, who were not receiving regular planned coaching or would like more sessions in a controlled development programme, NPBC opened their Academy to all comers under the condition they retained their club membership, whilst participating in any Academy activity. Take up was slow, but following an invitation from Bowls England to host a Youth International against a Hong Kong select youth team in 2019, this successful event was made possible by the support of the regions youngsters, notably those from our close long-standing neighbour, Olney BC Juniors.
The fine work being executed by NPBC in cooperation with the other clubs in the North Bucks region, was in alignment with the development ambitions of Bucks Bowls Association’s development officer, John Lonegan. The BBA plan was to have three County Regional Academies as Centres of Excellence in place during 2020. A Stable Venue, Full Management Capability, Qualified Coaching Programme and Safeguarding/First Aid support, with the full committee support, were key to the requirement and with NPBC being fully equipped in all areas, in 2020 the BBA appointed NPBC as the operational and administration venue for the new North Bucks Bowls Academy (NBBA) and Centre of Excellence.
Now established, the NBBA will run along side the NPBC Academy and the regular summer club will take place around the region from May to the end of September and is currently held on a Monday evenings from 5.00pm to 6.45pm. Regardless of gender, all regional Club Junior, Youth and Elite Group players are welcome to join us. Just simply register your interest on our Contact Us page.
