CLUB HISTORY
Bowls has been played in Newport Pagnell for over 400 years as maps of the Town dating from the mid 17th Century show a public House called “The Bowling Green”.
The Newport Pagnell Bowling Club was founded in 1905 and the club used the Bowling Green behind the George pub in Tickford Street (currently The Magic Wok). The game was developing locally due to the Railways with clubs at Wolverton existing already and Olney forming in 1906.
The Green was re-laid in the early 1960’s, automatic watering installed in 1988 and the ditches and banks modernised in 1992.
The Club unified in 2001 and became a CASC in 2008.
In 2018, with the support of an innovative committee, the club captain Richard Potton founded a Youth Academy, which was the first of its kind at club level in the County and most likely countrywide.

The Club badge features the two lions from the crest of FulkPaganell who was given the town by William the Conqueror and who founded Tickford Abbey. Underneath are the two rivers , Lovat and Little Ouse that join in Castle Meadow becoming The River Great Ouse.

After the Great War, the Club purchased a plot of land known as “The Bully” and the Club remains at this site in Castle Meadow to the current day. We know that during the 1920’s Ladies were allowed to play in the weekday afternoons, as long as they prepared teas for the Gentlemen at weekends. We are glad to say that rule has long past.

The Original Timber Pavilion was replaced by a brick structure in the period after WW2 and it has been extended and modified a number of times in the years since. A Ladies Section was formed in 1969 following the addition of the Ladies Changing Room.
