A maximum field of 28 bowlers competed in Newport Pagnell’s
40th anniversary Andy Tysoe Shield recently.
The shield was originally presented to the Club by former
member, Ron Tysoe, in honour of his son, Andy.
Andy had a severe motorcycle accident, and was rehabilitated
at Stoke Mandeville Hospital where he became a successful wheelchair bowler.
Ron wanted to establish an open, end-of-season singles
tournament in his name.
A finalist in 2025, Dave went one stage better this year to
become the 31st person to win the tournament and put the first Tysoe name on
the shield – very appropriate since Ron was Dave’s uncle and Andy his cousin.
The competition saw some strong performances from our
under-25 section – most notably academy member, Johnathan, who at just 16 years
old reached the semi finals, beating the previous two-year champion along the
way before narrowly losing out to Dave in the semi-finals.
