Our 2024 Season Summary
What a successful season it was for Newport Pagnell Bowling Club!!
The Open Day we held in May was very popular and we welcomed several new members as a result. (If you’re interested too, please come back to the website early in 2025 for information about how to join.)
We’re very proud of our thriving Junior Academy – a centre of excellence within North Bucks. It continued to grow in numbers and its members achieved some excellent things, with three of the juniors being picked to join the Bucks County Under 25 squad. The Academy has also had recognition locally from Sport MK and at national level via a Sunday newspaper article.
Our adult Members (plus a few of the juniors) have been delighted to attend away “Friendlies” against local clubs throughout the season and have, as always, been made to feel very welcome.
We have, in turn, hosted clubs in our home “Friendlies”. These are always popular with our Members as they provide a great way to enjoy the sport and meet up with old friends for a game, a drink, a meal and a chat. Plus they provide a perfect way for us to showcase our wonderful Club!
In addition, we acted as a neutral ground to host three County matches and welcome fabulously skilled players to sample our green and admire the view across Castle Meadow to the church.
As usual, our wide range of internal competitions encouraged entries from many, many Members of all ages and ability. And a celebratory BBQ on Finals Day in the middle of September marked the end of our competitive season.
The Club also achieved some outstanding results in County and National competitions with several of our teams and individuals reaching quarter-finals, semi-finals and Finals at the HQ of Lawn Bowls, Leamington. Well done to all our Members who played there.
Fundraising is always a key thing for small sports clubs and we’re no exception. Our major drive in 2024 was to purchase a new defibrillator for the Club. We’re extremely grateful to all the local supporters who helped us, in any way at all, to do this. We hope we never need to use it, but we’re so thankful to have it.
Finally, we now hope we all “Winter Well” (an old bowls saying!) in readiness for another great season next year.
